Introduction

All players of wind instruments need effective breathing. It can be compared to the bowing of string instruments. Breathing, though only a small part of your technique, is the underlying foundation on which your playing rests. A house with faulty foundations will in time crack and if worst comes to worst be unfit to live in. But whereas it can be difficult to replace the foundations after the house has been built, it is in fact possible to learn a new and better breathing technique.

The breathing technique necessary for a wind player is normally only activated during physical work, i.e. running, and the trick is being able to activate it as a naturally functioning reflex while you play. In this way you can concentrate on the most important thing: The music itself !
